I've just read a nice piece about focus and concentration - written by Christopher Richards (author of the 'slow down now' blog. It is about the subtile resistance to focus and concentrate on one task. Just check your mails before you start working or just drink another glass before you go home, ...
And what happens is that you never get to the real task you wanted to do.
Christopher calls his resistance Brenda and sees her as a beautiful woman who distracts him from the real tasks. I like this metaphor and was wondering what kind of image my resistance would be. I think it would get the shape of a small boy who wants to play and enjoy life instead of working. Being conscious of your 'resistance' and try to get a conversation with it already helps a lot and sometimes your 'resistance' even gives you time & space to work for a while on your task but don't ignore it.
How does your 'resistance' look like?
You'll find the whole article here.
